Engineers Without Borders USA - Yale University Student Chapter

Initially serving as a members, then as Project Lead, followed by my current role of Vice President, I have been able to see the ins and outs of EWB-USA from a variety of lenses.

Naitolia, Tanzania Project

  • Retention Pond

In Naitolia, we worked to create a pond for the agricultural community. The primary source of income in the area is from livestock, specifically cattle and goats. Because of this, one of the main objectives of our project was to create a clean water trough for them. We also worked to establish access to a borehole and wells in the area for household use.

  • Water Poverty Index

To quantitatively evaluate the quality to accessible water, our chapter has been working on an overarching scale to measure aspects relative to the cost, distance, quality, and use of the water sources we helped to provide. For livestock, we used the pond, and for household use, we used the wells and borehole.

Obraje, Ecuador Project

  • The Project

This project was intended to provide a clean water source for the community of Obraje, Ecuador, located south of Riobamba. zee conducted a preliminary assessment of the existing water source and its viability. However, due to recent events, the Yale Chapter is going on a hiatus for the 2023/24 academic year and will not be continuing with this project so that others may work to help this community.
